The envoy presented his credential to the President at Bangabhaban here on Tuesday afternoon.

During the meeting, the President Hamid sought active initiative as well as cooperation from the Myanmar envoy U Lwin Oo so that repatriation of the displaced Rohingyas, who fled away in Bangladesh from their Rakhine state homeland, start soon, said President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin.

Abdul Hamid also expressed the hope that the repatriation process would end during his (envoy’s) tenure in Dhaka, the Press Secretary said.

President told the Myanmar envoy that Bangladesh always put emphasis on the friendly relations with all neighbouring countries and hoped that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Myanmar would strengthen in future.

Ambassador U Lwin Oo sought cooperation from President Hamid in performing his duties during his tenure here.

Earlier, newly appointed France ambassador to Bangladesh Marie-Annick Bourdin also presented his credential to the President.

Welcoming the French ambassador, the President Hamid recalled with gratitude the contribution of France to Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.

Terming the existing relationship between Bangladesh and France as ‘excellent’, President hoped that bilateral trade and investment would further boost in days ahead during his tenure here.

Noting that France is a tested friend of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid said the recent visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister to France further strengthened the relations between two countries.

Ambassador Marie-Annick also sought cooperation from President Hamid in discharging his assignments here during his tenure.

Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, the two envoys were given guards of honour separately by the horse-mounted contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR).

On the occasion the national anthem of Bangladesh and that of their respective countries were played.

Later, the envoys separately called on President Hamid at Bangabhaban.

Meanwhile, a-five member delegation of International Inner Wheel led by Dr Kapila Gupta, paid a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening.

Inner Wheel is one of internationally reputed Women’s voluntary service organization involved in philanthropic activities throughout the world.

During the meeting, the President was apprised of different voluntary activities including health, sanitation, education and natural disasters in Bangladesh by the delegation.

He lauded different socio-economic development activities here and hoped that it would expand its voluntary activities for the welfare of under-privileged people of the country in days to come.
