The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) produced Shahed before the court with a 40-day remand prayer in the four cases

A Dhaka court has granted 28-day remand in four cases against Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed Karim in connection with his alleged involvement in providing fake Covid-19 certificates and embezzling money from patients.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury approved 7-day remand for each of the four cases against Shahed on Sunday afternoon.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) produced Shahed before the court with a 40-day remand prayer in the four cases.

Earlier in the morning, RAB brought the Regent Hospital chairman to the court after completion of his 10-day remand in a case filed against him.

CMM Court General Recording Officer (GRO) of the Sub Inspector Jalal Uddin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier on July 16, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim placed Shahed Karim on a 10-day remand, Masud Parvez, managing director of the hospital, on a 10-day and Tariqul Islam alias Tareque Shibli, close associate of Shahed, on a 7-day remand.

On July 15, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an armed Shahed on the bank of Labangaboti canal in Komarpur village under Satkhira’s Debhata upazila around 5am, as he was trying to flee across the border to India.

Shahed was absconding since RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the hospital. He has 56 cases against him and has been wandering around under the nose of police for a long time. ❑
