The probe body formed by the Home Ministry to kook into into the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing will submit its report within the next seven days.

Committee convener Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman disclosed the information after a public hearing involving witnesses of the incident on Sunday.

He also said they will put forward some recommendations to prevent the occurrence of such incident in the future.

The probe body chief said they have reached almost the last stage of their investigation, expressing the hope to submit the probe report by August 23.

As part of investigation into the killing of Major (retd) Sinha, the public hearing was held in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday with the participation of witnesses.

The probe body held the public hearing at the office of Rohingya camp in-charge at Shamlapur under Baharchhara union.

Though the hearing was scheduled to begin at 10am, it was delayed by one and half an hours due to bad weather.

During the hearing that lasted for around seven hours, the probe panel heard nine of the witnesses.

Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf upazila on July 31.

On August 2, the Home Ministry formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the incident. Later on August 4, the probe panel was reconstituted with Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman as its head.

Sinha’s elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5 over the killing.

Seven police personnel, including former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradip Kumar Das and Baharchhara police camp in-charge Liyakat Ali, were suspended in connection with the killing.❐
