People from all walks of life are paying their homage to the commander of Sector 4 during 1971’s Liberation War Major General (Rtd) Chitta Ranjan Dutta, popularly known as CR Dutta, after his body was taken to the Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

His body will be kept there till 12pm where the war hero will be given state honour.
Meanwhile, he has been given a guard of honour by a smartly turned out team of police, on behalf of Dhaka district administration. Bangladesh Army will also show respect to him before his cremation to be held at Rajarbagh Borodeshwari cremation ground.
CR Dutta passed away on August 25 while undergoing treatment at a Florida hospital in the USA at the age of 93.
Upon arrival from the USA on Monday morning, Dutta’s body was kept at the mortuary of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
Later, the body was taken to his Banani DOHS residence and given respect in an arrangement made by Banani Society.

Dutta was admitted to the Florida hospital as he broke his leg after falling in the bathroom at his daughter’s residence in the USA on August 20. His physical condition deteriorated fast while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Born on January 1, 1927, in Shillong, Assam, CR Dutta’s ancestral home is in the village of Mirashi under Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj. His father’s name was Upendra Chandra Dutta and his mother’s name was Labannya Prova Dutta.
He was founder Director General (DG) of the then Bangladesh Rifles, which is now called Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), former chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and founder president of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad.
CR Dutta was awarded the title of ‘Bir Uttam’ for his valiant contribution to the liberation war.❐
