UK Foreign Minister James Cleverley expressed the UK’s desire to witness fair elections in Bangladesh in the upcoming future during the courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
British Foreign Minister James Cleverley made such a remark during a meeting at London’s Hotel Claries on Saturday (May 6), UK local time. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina responded by stating that her government shares the same desire for a fair and peaceful election. She also expressed the need for everyone’s cooperation in achieving this goal.
After the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen briefed the journalists at Hotel Claridge. Regarding the election, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said, “The British Foreign Minister talked about the upcoming elections in Bangladesh. They also want a fair election. Sheikh Hasina conveyed that a robust democratic system has been established in Bangladesh, and her government is committed to ensuring a fair election. She emphasized that the participation and collaboration of all parties are crucial for conducting an impartial election. Therefore, she requested the assistance of others in this endeavor.”
Highlighting the contribution of the Awami League to strengthen the electoral system of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister said that the Awami League government has done everything to make the election transparent and beautiful.
Sheikh Hasina said, during BNP there was 1 crore 23 lakh fake votes, to prevent those fake votes, biometric photo ID, a voter list with photo has been prepared, and a transparent ballot box has been introduced so that no one can insert a ballot in the box earlier.
She conveyed that a very independent and strong Election Commission has been established. Apart from this, all the necessary institutional structures have been made transparent.
British Foreign Minister James Cleverley thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the British government for attending the coronation ceremony of King Charles III. The British Foreign Minister praised Bangladesh. James Cleverley especially praised the economic progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
Not only the election, various issues related to mutual interest including the business and trade of the two countries, bilateral relations, and the Rohingya issue were also discussed in this meeting.
