Ruling out any specific threat, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said on Saturday police is determined to prevent any fear of deteriorating law and order situation.
He made the remarks in a briefing on security measures over the 31st night at the DMP media centre.
“No celebrations and gatherings will be allowed in the streets, flyovers, and public places, even on the rooftops while police must be informed of indoor arrangements for the security measures,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said.
Asaduzzaman Mia said that no person or vehicle will be allowed to enter the Dhaka University area after 8 pm and the residents will be bound to show their identity cards to police personnel to enter after the imposed time.
He also said that the teachers, students, officers and employees living in the Dhaka University residential area will be able to enter the Nilkhet and Shahbag crossing after the scheduled time if they ensure their identity while Kakali and Amtali Crossing can be used to enter the Gulshan area after the mentioned time ensuring their identity.
Requesting all citizens, he added that those who do not live in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Dhaka University resident areas are discouraged to enter the area for the sake of overall security during the stated period.
Stressing on strict measures, he said that no one will be allowed to stay in Hatirjheel area after 8pm while the residents of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara are requested to return to their respective areas within 8pm.
Requesting to follow the route map prepared by DMP, “No reckless driving and no use of crackers will be allowed on the night. Tough measures will be taken against anybody who disobeys these instructions.”
“The necessary legal action will be taken to control the drug abuse. So all bars will be closed after 6pm on the night,” the DMP boss stressed.
Dhaka University premises, Gulshan and Baridhara areas will be restricted for the outsiders after 8:00pm and they will face checkposts to enter.
