Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Health condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is now stable with significant improvement in some cases, the authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University said today.

“Her (Khaleda) health condition has not deteriorated rather she is now in a stable state,” Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Hoque, director of the BSMMU, told journalists in a press conference at the hospital this noon.

“Khaleda Zia is not at risk, but happy with the treatment being provided by a medical board formed with specialist doctors,” the BSMMU director said.

Claiming that the former premier is not cooperating the doctors in some cases for the last seven months, he said Khaleda Zia is being given good treatment and she is taking medicines as prescribed by the five-member medical board formed by the government to provide treatment to her.

The BSMMU director came up with the statement when BNP leaders and Khaleda’s family members alleged that Khaleda’s health condition turned critical as she is not getting proper treatment at the hospital.

On Friday, Khaleda’s elder sister Selima Islam and some of her relatives met the BNP chief at the BSMMU and later told newsmen that her (Khaleda) health has deteriorated alarmingly and she needs better treatment abroad on an emergency basis.

Mahbubul Hoque said Khaleda’s blood pressure and the temperature was being measured every day and her blood sugar twice a day.

“Doctors often could not meet Khaleda Zia as our office time begins from 8:00 am and ends 2:30 pm. Our doctors often could not see her as we have to seek her permission. Usually, she gives us permission around 1:30 pm. In many cases, our doctors could not meet her even after waiting until 4:30 pm,” the BSMMU director said

Hoque said the medical board has suggested giving a vaccine for arthritis treatment but she is yet to give permission.

Prof. Md. Zilan Miah Sarker, who was also present at the press conference, said they are satisfied with the treatment and even Khaleda Zia herself is also satisfied.

He, however, said Khaleda has been suffering from several problems from around 28 years back and these are not curable completely but it is possible to keep the problems under control following treatment.
