“The accused in a rape case cannot be acquitted just because there is no medical test. If allegations against the accused are proved by oral testimony of the victim and other testimonies, he can be sentenced on the basis of it.”
The High Court (HC) bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty said this in their observations of the case of Ibrahim Ghazi vs the State.
The HC has upheld the life-term imprisonment sentenced to Ibrahim Gazi by the Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in a rape case. The High Court gave its verdict on February 27. The verdict was recently published on the Supreme Court’s website.❐
