Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk: Lining up for hours at Central Shaheed Minar, thousands of mourning fans and followers paid their tributes to legendary rockstar Ayub Bachchu, who died of heart attack yesterday.

They also observed one minute’s silence as homage to the maestro.

Since morning, people from all walks of life, many of them with flowers or bouquets, were seen lining up on the premises of Shaheed Minar where the body of Ayub Bachchu had been kept for three hours.

From Square Hospitals, his body was taken to the Shaheed Minar by an ambulance around 10:25am where his fans and followers had a glimpse of him and paid their respects to him.

Ayub Bachchu’s colleagues, fellow musicians, artistes, cultural activists and political leaders were also there to pay their respects.

Huge number of law enforcers were also deployed there to ensure law and order.

Just before leaving the Shaheed Minar around 12:30pm, all present there observed a one-minute silence.

Later, the body was taken to Eidgah Maidan where his first namaz-e-janaza was held after the Jummah prayers.

After the janaza, the body was taken to his studio AB Kitchen in the capital’s Moghbazar. Later, the body was taken at the Channel-i premises where his second namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asr prayers.

The bona fide rock legend and founder of the musical band LRB died of a heart attack in Dhaka yesterday at the age of 56. He was kept at the mortuary of the Square Hospitals last night.

Bachchu will be buried next to his mother at their family graveyard in Chattogram on Saturday, family sources said.

He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter, alongside a huge number of relatives, disciples and admirers to mourn his death.

Born in Chittagong, he started his music career there with the band Feelings in 1978. From 1980 to 1990, he was a member of Souls as lead guitarist and finally in 1991, he formed his own band, LRB or “Love Runs Blind”. LRB released its first album as a double album in 1992, which contained hard rock songs like “Madhobi” “Hoker” “Sesh Cithi keno amon Cithi hoy” “Happy” and “Dhakar Sondha”.

Ayub Bachchu made his debut in the music industry by giving voice in the song ‘Harano Bikiler Golpo’.

In 1986, he released his first music album ‘Rakto Golap’. His success story began when his second album ‘Moyna’ was released.

He rose to fame by releasing his third album ‘Koshto’ in 1995 and the album was a super hit, adds UNB.

From creating one of the most timeless soft-rock masterpieces, Cholo Bodley Jai, switching his guitar tone to overdrive for the heavy metal-esque Shahbagh Mor, or just simply capturing the masses with his pop venture Ek Akasher Tara Tui, Ayub managed to embed his own style in Bangladeshi music.

Bachchu was the son of Haji Mohammad Ishuque Chowdhury and Late Nurjahan Parvin. He grew up in the port city of Chittagong, in a joint family, surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles.
