A Bangladeshi Journalist Mizanur Rahman passes away
The daily Prothom Alo’s joint editor Mizanur Rahman Khan has passed away in a city hospital on Monday evening.
He was 53.
He breathed his last at 6.05 pm at Universal Medical College Hospital at Mahakhali, family sources said.
Earlier, Khan was tested positive for coronavirus on November 27 last.
Initially, he received treatment at a private facility in the capital. On December 10, he was shifted to Universal Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. He was kept at intensive care unit of the hospital.
On Saturday, Khan was kept on life support as his condition further deteriorated.
Mizanur is survived by wife, two sons, one daughter, mother and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. He was the eldest among the nine children of his parents.
Born on October 31, 1967 in Jhalakathi’s Nalchity, Mizanur graduated from Barishal BM College.
Mizanur Rahman took up journalism as his profession in the late 80s by joining a Barishal daily.
He worked in various capacities in different media houses in his long career.
His notable books include ‘Sangbidhan O Tatmabadhayok Sarkar Bitorko’ (constitution and the caretaker government debate) and ‘1971: Americar Gopon Dalil’ (1971: America’s secret documents).
He earned a reputation through his interpretative reports and columns on legal issues.
Mosiur said Mizanur’s body will be kept on Birdem mortuary on Monday overnight.
His body will be taken to the Supreme Court Premises on Tuesday morning where his first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held around 10.00 am. The body will be brought to Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) around 10:30am where his second janaza will be held.
His third janza will be held at the Jatiya Press Club around 11am and then his body will be brought to the Prothom Alo office.
Finally, Mizanur will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Graveyard after Zohr prayers.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed deep shock at the death of Mizanur Rahman Khan.
In a condolence message, he prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin and General Secretary Elias Khan also condoled Mizanur’s demise.
Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) President Morsalin Nomani expressed profound shock at his death.❐
