Hindustan Surkhiyan Desk:As cries for his release continue falling on deaf ears, the court has decided not to grant bail to quota reform leader Rashed Khan yet following double phases of remand grilling.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur dismissed the petition today after Rashed’s lawyer pleaded bail in the case filed over attack on Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence. The court threw Rashed back to jail.
The quota reformist leader, behind bars in two separate cases, was presented before court today after completion of his 10-day remand, which followed a previous five-day remand grilling.
Rashed, joint convener of quota reform-demanding popular platform Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, was detained from Bhasantek, Dhaka, on July 1 at a time when the government went offensive against the activists.
He was later shown arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act on the day. Bangladesh Chhatra League Law Affairs secretary Al-Nahian Khan Joy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.
Also, during that time, ruling Awami League’s student front Chhatra League began a crackdown on the activists – beating them up mercilessly in Dhaka and elsewhere.
Citizens, politicians and organisations have been on the street and remaining vocal against the “barbaric acts” and demanding unconditional release of Rashed.
